90th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment
90th anniversary of the 19th amendment:
Did you know Ninety years ago today, women got the right to vote. Here’s the text of the 19th amendment, which was ratified on August 18, 1920, by the Tennessee General Assembly: “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.” Tennessee was the thirty-sixth state to ratify, giving the amendment the requisite approval of three-fourths of the states; the amendment passed because 24 year-old legislator Harry Burn changed his vote, at the insistence of his elderly mother.

4th of July | Thomas Jefferson
“I place economy among the first and most important virtues, and public debt as the greatest of dangers. To preserve our independence, we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt.”
Thomas Jefferson, 1743-1826

When to Fly the Amercian Flag:
Dates to Fly the American Flag: I can remember when I was a Boy Scout back in the mid-1960s. Each major holiday we would meet at the scout hall at about 6:30 a.m. to loud approximatelly 100 flags, which were rolled up on their seven foot flag pools, into the back of a pickup truck. We would head down town to put up “Old Glory” in front of each store and business on main street. Baldwin, Michigan was (and still is) a small rural community with a population of about 800. The business district was approximately two blocks long. In the sidewalk next to the curb in front of each business was a 2 inch pipe for placing the pole into. The at that time of morning street was empty, no traffic, no cars parked on it. It was quiet and the morning sun was just coming up. We would walk back and forth from the truck, grab a flag and head back to the curb place the flag into the next pipe and rush to keep up with the pickup. We normally had eight to ten scouts on this community service, so it wouldn’t take us long to cover downtown. Then come evening we would be out there removing the flags, rolling them up on there poles and placing them in the truck. I am now 55 years old, and each Memorial – 4th of July I still remember this honorable duty. Sometimes I feel we as amercians are losing touch with it was like in small town america and the importance to remember. This is why I am posting this schedule. May God Blees Amercia.
